The creek was quite high as it had snowed heavily during Friday night and Saturday morning. This Dandelion was caught up in the flood waters.

It’s next to impossible to get this dog to pose for the camera. This is one of the rare times when she decided to oblige.

These Daffodils looked so sad with their heads bowed over looking at the snow wondering when it would ever be Spring.

I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. Yes, I said enjoyed. Did you miss it? It was last week; beautiful temperatures, sunny skies, and the snow almost melted completely away. Alas, it is over and winter is here once again. It is currently dumping snow. The wind is howling and it is friggin’ cold outside. Al Gore can take his Global Warming and shove it up his sizeable ass!

Update:
It is now 7:30PM and the wind has picked up. The house actually shudders with some of the gusts. And it is a complete blizzard. Perhaps this is the beginning of the next Ice Age. There is one week left in April and if this keeps up, I may have to shovel snow tomorrow. We might have two months of summer this year. I am not happy.

It has continued to dump snow on us for a few days and nights now. We are definitely going to have a very white Christmas. The snow plow has made the removal of the snow more fun than work and our driveway looks like a parking lot. Good news if you are Harley. He has a hard time busting through the deep snow, so all of the extra room in the driveway translates into more roaming territory for the old man. Here’s a little clip of him enjoying some snow.

The snow has finally decided to fall in Routt County. Nighttime temperatures have also taken a plunge. The roads are coated in an icy layer of snow pack. All of which can create some difficult driving conditions. Difficult, that is, if you drive like a moron. Such was the case with our neighbor pictured below. She is notorious for having quite a lead foot when it comes to acceleration. I happened to be standing on the back porch when I witnessed this beautifully executed maneuver. She managed to come around the corner with such speed and enough force to actually glide over the ditch and stick the car in the side of the hill. Unfortunately, the photo just doesn’t do it justice. It will be a tough one to beat.

Werner Moon' / align="left">Ever since that first snowfall at the beginning of the month we have been experiencing amazingly beautiful weather. Blue skies, sunshine and temperatures in the fifties. Although I happen to be enjoying this weather immensely, the skiers are not too thrilled. Ski Corp has announced that it won’t be opening the mountain until the end of the month. This announcement has gone over like a fart in church with all sorts of nasty comments being hurled towards the new owners, Intrawest. I’m no expert, but I don’t think snow can be made at temperatures in the fifties.
The snow will come as it always does and it has. Ten inches of lovely, heavy, wet snow has fallen overnight. Looks like it’s going to be a white Thanksgiving after all Charlie Brown.

For those of you who don’t know, Steamboat Springs, CO. is SkiTown USA. This means that a breed of humans known as Tourists flock here in the winter. Although this ski season started out relatively mild, turning to absolutely bleak it appears that it will be going out with quite a bang. In the last 72 hours the mountain has received 30″ of new snow. Which is on top of a shit load of snow from a previous storm. Super, terrific, w00t even. The problem is that it doesn’t just snow. For whatever climatological reasons the snow must be accompanied by gale force winds that blow everything to hell and gone. This creates drifts; massive, car swallowing drifts. Perfect conditions for a local spectator sport called “Tourist Gawking”.

Here’s a quick scenario: People rent out a house in the neighborhood that has a pretty burly driveway. It’s steep and has a slight curve that can really screw up your world. This driveway is not maintained. It snows, the wind blows and the drive is drifted in. The owners of this house own a tractor which is outfitted with a blower and is kept in a shed. I repeat, snow removal equipment is located on the premises. Yet these geniuses insist upon attempting to drive up a barely existent driveway, inevitably get stuck and begin shoveling. This particular group came to town over the Presidents Day holiday and spent most of their time dealing with their stuck cars.

Not only did they all get stuck in the driveway, but one of them also drove off the side of the road. They ended up parking their cars at the bottom of the driveway and hauling all of their belongings up. I’m not even sure if these folks ever got a chance to ski. They never used the tractor. It makes you wonder if the owners of the house inform the vacationers of its existence. Why didn’t I tell them? What and spoil all of the fun? Whatever. Anyway, I don’t think we will be seeing them next year.
