Snow Shoeing the Yard
Last year I took some pictures of the yard after I had gone out and done some snow shoeing. I had meant to stitch them together and make one panoramic photo, but I forgot. I was on the Stephen King Forum and there had been a discussion started on walking and snow shoeing came up. This made me remember the photos. Here is my attempt at putting them together. It’s not perfect, but I think you can get the idea. The black line is the path I had taken. I was standing on a plowed mountain of snow when I took these pictures. The house is to the left in the photo and you can just see a small corner of the roof above a bird feeder.

The trail changes throughout the winter as each storm pretty much wipes out my previous trail. I’m still waiting for enough snow to fall to crack out my snowshoes this season.
Walkin’ the Poop Trail
Today was an absolutely beautiful day – sunshine, warm (31º) and no wind. I managed to get out into the yard for another trek with the snow shoes. It was much easier going this time around since I managed to get the trail packed down a bit yesterday. I added another loop to give it some more length. It’s probably around a quarter of a mile in one direction. The downfall of creating a nice walkable trail is that the dogs will use it also. When I go out again I will have to take a shovel with me to remove the poop on the path. Doodles made her contribution today. Having to avoid steamers takes a bit of the fun out of it I must say.
Snow Shoeing the Yard
We have been getting plenty of snow this season. Enough snow for me to tackle blazing a snow shoe trail through the yard. I tried to follow the golf course as best as possible, including creek crossings. Doodles accompanied me for this first round. She doesn’t quite get the whole snow shoe thing yet and kept standing on the back of the shoes. She almost sent me face-first a couple of times. It’s amazing how well she can porpoise through the deep snow. If you are headed out this way – bring your snow shoes. Nothing is better than a good heart thumping stroll followed by a dip in the hot tub.
