This is no ordinary exercise ball; we call it “The Orb”. It has been in our yard for well over four years, completely inflated. Every now and then it gets untangled from the willows and floats around in the creek.

The creek was quite high as it had snowed heavily during Friday night and Saturday morning. This Dandelion was caught up in the flood waters.

It’s next to impossible to get this dog to pose for the camera. This is one of the rare times when she decided to oblige.

These Daffodils looked so sad with their heads bowed over looking at the snow wondering when it would ever be Spring.

Before any of you get the silly idea into your head that there’s a baby on the way – the new addition I am referring to has four legs and a tail. She’s a one-year old Pit-Bull with the unfortunate name of Yampa. Her former owner just didn’t have the time to really take care of her and she spent most of her time attached to a chain in a trailer park. She also didn’t get much training and is kind of a wild little thing. Whenever you bring a new pet into the house the unknowns begin to make themselves known rather quickly. The lack of training was something we were aware of. We had doggy sat her a few times and knew she needed some discipline. The separation anxiety, on the other hand, was an issue we learned the hard way. We left her home alone on her first night with us to go to a friend’s for dinner. By the time we arrived back home Yampa had found Dave’s Doc Marten boots.

Dave had owned these boots for quite a long time. They had gone to Woodstock, stomped the streets of New Orleans for seven Mardi Gras, skanked at innumerable concerts, pounded the pavement in D.C. and danced to Phish at Madison Square Gardens. Their sentimental value was priceless. Since that first day she has managed to nibble on an area rug, destroy the entry carpet, gnaw on the vinyl couch cover, rip apart her bed, chew the zipper off of a friend’s luggage and go through a number of various dog toys. In fact, she can put a hole in a brand new tennis ball in about one minute. We have found that lengths of knotted rope and bones stuffed with a chicken-cheese paste seem to work best. Now whenever we have to go to town we take her with us. She seems to do OK in the car, although, the Accura’s backseat is minus a bit of foam. If we do leave her home we make sure anything that we don’t want chewed into tiny pieces is put away.
Even with all of the destruction, she is a very sweet puppy and really wants to be good. Harley doesn’t seem to mind her and she actually has learned a little from him.
