American Bald Eagle

American Bald Eagle

Driving along the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs we can get the occasional Eagle siting, but they are usually on the other side of the river making it impossible for me to get a photo with my camera. At least a photo where you can actually tell that there is a Bald Eagle in the tree.

Thankfully, I have been following my New Year’s Resolution of keeping my camera on my person at all times otherwise I would have missed this rare opportunity. I try to always have my eyes peeled for anything interesting while driving to town on the days that I have to work. This Eagle was perched up in a tree that was close to some parking spaces; making it even easier for me to pull over. My guess is that he/she may have caught a fish out of the river and attracted a bunch of Crows and Magpies to check out the situation. They were causing quite a ruckus which is what first alerted me to the fact that something interesting might be happening. What amazes me is how many passersby were completely oblivious to this magnificent bird’s presence so close to the sidewalk.

It just goes to show you what wonders you can see when you aren’t always in such a hurry to get from point A to point B.
