Phish’s New Album ~ “Joy”

June 25, 2009 · Posted in Rambles · Comment

In case you haven’t noticed, Phish is back and on tour. They have also been in the studio recording tracks for a new album, “Joy”, due to be released sometime in August.

They have been playing most of these new songs on their current tour. And I gotta say that I rather like them. Of course, I’m also hearing them performed live which is always better then studio recordings.

If you want to give the new album a listen to, they have a nice set-list over at Jamtopia. The site also has lyrics for those of you who need to learn the songs before heading off to your next Phish concert.

Rachel & Her Chariot

Just came across this video and it’s a hoot. Rachel is 89 years old and has been the only owner of Chariot; a 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente. Only in America would this story make the news. See for yourself:

Turkish Grand Prix – 2009

Mark Webber There was much excitement for the start of this race. Sebastian Vettel managed to take pole position from Jensen Button after qualifying on Saturday. Vettel managed to get a good start off the line, however, a bit of a bungle on turn nine into ten sent him off the road. Button managed to sail past and kept the lead for another victory. The Red Bull cars still managed to show how well they are performing by taking the second and third podium positions. The next race is in England; home track for the race leader, Jensen Button. Wouldn’t it be fun for a man from Australia to win at Silverstone? I’ve got my fingers crossed for you, Mark.

Breaking Dawn ~ Stephenie Meyers

June 15, 2009 · Posted in Book Reviews · Comment

Breaking Dawn Hallelujah!!! I am finally done with this damned series.

Ugh, what a long winded ordeal this was. The entire book revolves around the imminent war between the Cullens and these ancient Italian vampires.

Bella and Edward get married, they consummate their marriage on some island, and Bella immediately gets pregnant. Vampires can reproduce in such a manner? Apparently so. This is before Bella has been transformed into a vampire, mind you. This means that the baby is a half-human, half-vampire combination. The birth of the baby nearly kills Bella, but Edward manages to “save” her by injecting her with his venom, thus turning her into a vampire – finally. Apparently there is a law amongst vampires that it is illegal to turn a baby into one of the undead. The child is witnessed by another vampire who reports it to the Italian dudes and thus imminent war.

It is truly unfortunate that Meyer had to drag this book out to some 500 or so pages. It really could have been half the length and still gotten the point across. It got so bad that I was hoping for the Apocalypse to happen and kill everyone; humans, vampires, werewolves, etc. The predictability really started to get boring.

I haven’t watched the movie – yet. I did, however, waste some bandwidth and downloaded it the other day. I guess I’m just a glutton for punishment.

Carbon Fiber vs. Staffordshire Terrier

June 9, 2009 · Posted in Rambles · Comment

Here’s an amusing story about a squirrel, a little dog and a carbon fiber hood scoop:

Chuck-TaylorMeet Chuck-Taylor.
He is a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel who lives in the yard and enjoys a healthy diet of sunflower seeds. Chuck has been a regular visitor in the yard for a few years and has quite a maze of underground tunnels all over the place. He also has many hiding places; woodpiles, sheds and under the hoods of cars. Chuck is a brave little guy and loves to run around the yard tormenting the dog.

DoodlesMeet Doodles.
She is a three year old Staffordshire Terrier who suffers from a mild case of separation anxiety with a touch of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In the short time that Doodles has been around, she has managed to destroy thousands of dollars worth of personal possessions; Cadillac headrests, numerous shoes, hats and other various articles of clothing, books, luggage, RAM sticks, Shure headphones, sofa cushions, rugs, dog beds, and one carbon fiber hood.

SubaruMeet “The Little Blue Car”
She’s a 2002 Subaru WRX. Although, it isn’t apparent from this photo, the hood is made out of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is supposed to be strong, right? Formula One race cars are built out of it; along with bicycles, boats, golf clubs and toilets. Carbon fiber may be strong, however, it is apparently not Doodle proof.

The squirrel spends much of its day running around the yard, scooping up sunflower seeds and peeking out from under the hoods of cars. The dog spends much of her day chasing the squirrel around the yard including over and under the cars parked in the driveway. Well, one day Chuck chose to tease the dog by peaking out from under the hood scoop of the Subaru. Eventually, the poor dog became so irate that she jumped up onto the hood and began to rip chunks out of the hood scoop. This is the result of what a pissed off little dog can do to some carbon fiber:
